Are Youths Too Concentrated On The Moment?

Back when I was an adolescent I was extremely centered on the here and now. Existence was a matter of life and death when it came to having a partner, being accepted and listening to music. It was simple to get stuck in the moment with the sole concentrate on getting out for the weekend “and maybe even a few times during the week.

I needed to rebel at home and have my free space, yet I did not want to leave the security of the home. I wanted the freedom of the city as long as I did not have the responsibility that comes with handling the keys. I wanted my own money but didn’t want to find employment. Now I work as a SEO consultant and I used to be a computer phobic. Life goes on, regardless of if a dynamic youth doesn't need it to. Being a youth although you could be depressed, you sort of see yourself and your philosophies as the peak of human existence.

I presumed money would just fall into my lap while not having to work for it. Now I have learned that lesson and a lot more besides. Back during my youth more than 2 decades back only the bikers or the hardened few had tattoos. Now you're in the minority at 19 if you don't have one.

Youngsters even get lyrics of songs emblazoned across their chest, arms and neck. Tattoos are permanent in most cases. You can't have your entire life summed up in one song, one brief chorus or slight remark. I'd live and die by the lyrics I would fret over and scribble down on my mix tapes and notepads when I was younger.

Thank The Lord I never got any of them etched to my skin. I was depressed when I was a young teenager, but I sure as heck ain’t now, and wouldn't want to be scarred by a lyric for the remainder of my life that doesn't outline who I Am now.

That's the difficulty with being young. You suspect that everything is final. It won't change. Or you rush out to do something life affirming as you are terrified you will change. Ironic. And yes you will. Life is a series of events some good, some bad, some immaterial “or so you would think. They're going to change you. They will make you into a different person. And that's the point of life. You cannot stay 17 for evermore. And why would you need to? Life does not top at 17. Like a vintage wine it becomes better with age.
